The White Knight Rises is a cycling trip across Europe I did in the summer of 2013. I was finishing a yearly job contract in Durango in the Spanish Basque Country and wondered what to do with my white single speed bike. Out of the three options I had, I rejected selling it or sending it via courrier, and decided to ride it from Spain to my hometown Wrocław in Poland. The idea was far too exciting not to indulge in it and I was completely obsessed with it 3 months prior to the start date. After several months of fairly light preparations on Aug 4 at midnigh I set off from Durango towards San Sebastián. 3956km and 52 days later I arrived in rainy Wrocław having ridden on a one gear bike through the mountain ranges of the Pyrenees, the Apenines, the Julian Alps as well as Karkonosze and having visited grand cities like San Sebastián, Toulouse, Marseille, St. Tropez, Nice, Cannes, Genova, Venice, Ljubljana, Bratislava and most importantly – my biggest discovery of that year – the amazing Budapest. An unforgettable journey with just a sleeping bag, traditional paper maps, and a handful of clothes and tools, sleeping mostly on beaches, in parks, under lighthouses and by the lakes. Even in cemeteries. My longest stage was 160km made in a day riding from Bratislava to Brno. The movie below contains also photos at the end!
